The Renault Kangoo is one of those vehicles commercial more known of them two last decades. Its load capacity, low cost of acquisition, as well as a very low maintenance cost, has made that million businesses, self-employed and individuals have opted for this vehicle. In 2011, Renault wanted to revolutionize the market, offering the Renault Kangoo Z.E., which was one of the first electric commercial vehicles marketed by a generalist manufacturer.
The sales results have been very discreet in five years which has been placed on the market. As in any electric vehicle, especially in the developed a few years ago, the main problem presented by the reduced autonomy is offering. Approves 170 km of autonomy on the NDEC cycle, although in a normal driving will be closer to 100 kilometers of the advertised 170. Its electric engine, yielding a power of 60 HP and a torque of 220 Nm, doesn’t offer a great response, but benefits in such vehicles are a matter of little importance.
As said before, the main problem of the Renault Kangoo Z.E. is its autonomy. The Rhombus, Renault Pro +, French brand commercial vehicles subsidiary recently announced that will present, on 13 January and during the Brussels Salon, an electrical upgrade for this vehicle which will extend its ability to travel on a single charge of the battery.
The gain of autonomy, according to Renault Pro + will be higher than 50%, a very positive fact. In the cycle NDEC will be 270 km that the Renault Kangoo Z.E. homologue. Again, the real autonomy will be much lower. Of commercial vehicles of Renault’s own subsidiary says, in its reduced press release, that in real life will be 200 km. This figure might be sufficient in vehicles used for distribution by the city or companies operating on a reduced range of km. In any case, any improvement is welcome.
