With the launch of the Fiat 124 Spider, the Italians have recovered one of the most legendary names in its catalogue. So reach range Fiat model sporty and aspirational brand, recovering part of the essence last mark. Now from OmniAuto made an interesting proposal, recreating a Fiat 124 Coupé with a render. And the truth, doesn’t seem at all a bad idea.
The Fiat 124 Spider is a derivative of the Mazda MX-5, the best selling roadster in the world in four generations. While Mazda has had over the years some prototype anticipating a body coupé, the closest are the MX – 5 NC in hardtop or the new Mazda MX-5 RF. This rendering, however, recreates a Fiat 124 Coupe, completely enclosed, reviving the model that was manufactured between 67 and 75 years and which we know as SEAT 124 Sport in Spain.
Mazda MX-5 RF has a type targa hardtop
It is not yet clear whether Fiat will dare to launch a model with these characteristics, although it would be interesting to be able to stand up against models such as the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT86. On the other hand, it would be a very niche product, you could do that Fiat will take back in a project like this.
Mechanically there is no doubt that would be the same engine 1.4 turbo of the Fiat 124 Spider, with 140 horsepower and rear-wheel drive. They would also share equipment. The solution that more intrigue to those who expect a Fiat 124 Coupe is the access to the luggage compartment, which could be through a door with the window or a smaller boot lid.
