The Group French PSA is in full process of expansion of their operations in various countries of the world. After the bump that happened are reverting with force to the market to recover the ground lost following the fierce economic downturn. All this comes macerated by the launch of new models and their RAID in segments in which until now not were present. One of them is the pick up light, although we must recognize that some other model of these features have been as Peugeot Hoggar in Latin America.
However the PSA group managers want more and this will be released to manufacture and sell a new pick up in Tunisia. According to the group this new model is designed for Peugeot (of Citroen not have spoken nothing even) and will have as mission compete in the market with the Navara, Amarok and company. To make it possible PSA has signed an agreement with Stafim, traditional Peugeot partner in Tunisia to create a new factory that assembling this pick up and possibly other models.
According to the information provided by the PSA group this new investment is collected in the plan “Push to Pass” that is following to recover its position in the market. With all the new plant should be operational in the middle of next year 2018. Its production capacity will be variable and it is expected that around 1,200 units are manufactured per year to meet the demand of the African country.
Once we know the details of this announcement we must ask a couple of questions. A few months ago we informed you that the PSA group was planning to launch a pickup but currently the French group does not have the necessary technology or with the economic resources needed to develop a specific model from scratch. In addition, this would mean much more dilated time limits that have offered so it is necessary to think that they will have any partner strategic.
Today its agreements with group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) seem to be at a standstill since they share only the Nemo and Bipper and there appears to be no plans to renovate. With Mitsubishi does not seem feasible that they reach an agreement since the sales of previous agreements and economic results do not seem to a good basis. The unique brand with which could launch this pick up is with Toyota because is the manufacturer with which more are working in this moment.
Therefore would see a Toyota Hilux with the logo of the lion in the hood? most likely is something like this.
