A couple of days ago we had the French group PSA (Peugeot and Citroen DS) was finalizing the details to manufacture cars in Uruguay. In the Latin American country will assemble Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy, but seems more workload reach the factories which have spread over the southern part of the continent.
The French conglomerate also has an Assembly at El Palomar (Argentina) plant and in recent months has been in works for upgrading their lines of work. Once finished works, Carlos Tavares, CEO of the Group and Carlos Gomes, President of the group for the Mercosur, were present before the media to talk about the new production stage which will take place in this country.
The details provided on the models to be manufactured there have not been many. Yes have made it clear that those who come out of their production lines will be assembled on the new platform CMP (has been developed along with its Chinese partner Dongfeng). In addition, they have also indicated the date on which will be the first model that is manufactured on this basis and that will happen when the year 2019.
Initially, models more chances have come out of this plant are the 208 Peugeot and Citroen C3. These models will go to local markets and to be manufactured in Mercosur, its price will be cheaper than if are from Europe. However, at El Palomar there will also be room for other models which could be the new Pick Up group.
According to Carlos Tavares “the pick up of one ton project moves on and is at stage of development, with some allies. The product is being developed by the PSA group and will be available both to the Peugeot and Citroen brands. It will be a decision of each brand if you offer it or not in its product portfolio. The pickup probably manufactured in various places in the world, although still don’t define what will be these plants. That will be defined on the basis of costs and sales objectives for each market. But without a doubt is a product aimed at Latin America, Africa and Asia”.
You should be aware of what are the models to be manufactured in the country since the previous four-door C4 was assembled there. Therefore, the PES Group could be thinking on improving the profitability of their operations through in cheaper countries manufacturing and exporting to the rest of the markets.
